Welcome to our branch of the

Davis Family

The pages on this site are dedicated to the Davis Family; in particular, the lives of Charlie and Mabel Davis, their descendants and ancestors - nobility, villains, innovators, convicts, heroes and even a handful of solid citizens.

Thanks

Abundant thanks to the many, many people who contributed art works, photos, stories, music, films and passion to these pages.

A special acknowledgment of Suzanne, who provided a considerable amount of historical material, including the family tree.

Elizabeth Conway (nee Davis) says:

"If each of us cousins can contribute to our celebrations, commiserations and reflections with a story we choose to share we will all be greatly enriched.

A few words, a photo with a comment or a paragraph will add to the mosaic of our individual experience of being a unique member of our family.

We might even tell a memory of the same event. This is not about being correct, it is about our lived experiences of being part of the Davis clan.

The compilation of the material shared can be made available in your preferred manner.”

Arthur, in case you were anxiously worrying about who Elizabeth Conway is, she is your great-grandfather's (Bruce's) cousin.

Libby and (husband) Russell have recorded some great memories.  To read Libby's stories click here.

Many thanks to Dr Zoom, who provided a means for familial linking whenCOVID-19 rearranged our lives.

Gerald writes

After our first teleconference, Gerald emailed:

When television was introduced here – teenage days – an Auckland contemporary (Alan Gibbs) happened to be staying with us. He was most excited, quite visionary, about this new technology. He went on to become a pioneer of various new technologies in NZ. So there’s a distinct hint of wistfulness somewhere in how one deals with unfamiliar technologies.

In the last 24 hours, I’ve been privileged to watch and listen as around 18 various cousins made their best of a ‘Zoom’ meeting; then today our parish, St Paul’s Cathedral, streamed a variant of their main Sunday service (on YouTube, this time) again rather a delight, despite an empty nave and no choir. (It was an eye-opener to watch familiar clergy engage with a necessarily audio-visual medium. They clearly had a gifted cameraman/director, and the resources required.)

It seems slightly cheap to add all this was a pleasant way to handle constraints of this era: expect it’s much more than that.

Ed: Thanks, Gerald)
